With a growing population of English learners (ELs), the challenges of identifying and providing appropriate opportunities for gifted students become increasingly complex. Dr. Jonathan Klingeman explores the issues arising from language barriers, cultural disparities, and interrupted educational experiences that hinder the recognition of talents in ELs.

Beyond language obstacles, there is a historical inequality in gifted education, particularly impacting Hispanic and Black students. Klingeman delves into his successful program at State College Area School District in Pennsylvania, emphasizing universal screening to address these disparities. He also addresses the importance of evaluating both achievement and ability data, being inclusive of diverse languages, and expanding enrichment and acceleration opportunities to ensure equitable outcomes for all students - especially those from marginalized communities.
