Riverside Insights’ exclusive collaboration with teletherapy pioneer Presence makes the Woodcock-Johnson® V accessible via teletherapy, ensuring schools can more quickly identify the supports students need

ITASCA, IL, September 10, 2025 – Riverside Insights, developer of many of the most widely used K-12 assessments, including Woodcock-Johnson V (WJ V), Iowa Assessments™ and DESSA, announced the expansion of its exclusive partnership with Presence, the leading provider of remote special education-related and mental health services. This collaboration enables the administration of the now fully digital Woodcock-Johnson® V (WJ V) through Presence’s secure teletherapy platform—offering schools flexibility to meet the growing demand for timely special education evaluations.

Used in 91% of school districts nationwide, the Woodcock-Johnson suite is one of the most widely-used and comprehensive assessment systems for evaluating students’ intellectual abilities, academic achievement, and oral language skills. The WJ V builds on a rich legacy with enhanced efficiency, new tests and clusters, including a focus on dyslexia, post-pandemic updated norms, and automated scoring—empowering examiners with faster, more actionable insights.

MEETING THE MOMENT FOR SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS

Today, over a third of districts face special education staffing shortages, and as a result, lengthy backlogs in assessing student needs. By combining the trusted rigor of the WJ V with Presence’s nationwide network of teletherapy providers, schools can connect students to critical services sooner. The new WJ V introduces features designed for today’s educational landscape, including:

• Automated scoring and updated norms to deliver immediate, actionable results.
• Innovative new tests and clusters in areas such as sentence writing accuracy, story comprehension, and math problem identification.
• Embedded audio and adaptive starting points for a more streamlined, personalized experience.

Presence has integrated the WJ V into its secure technology platform allowing examiners to deliver comprehensive evaluations from anywhere in the country to students nationwide. A recent equivalency study confirms the WJ V can be administered remotely with equivalent results to in-person administration. In addition, the WJ V will be made available in Kanga, Presence’s web-based platform licensed by school special education teams to provide their clinicians with technology tools to plan, deliver, and document special education-related therapy and assessment services. 

Through its network of more than 2,000 clinicians, Presence has delivered over 7 million remote evaluations and teletherapy sessions. Providers will receive training and resources to administer the WJ V remotely in schools served by Presence.
